Kindness

Since the anniversary of the Newtown shootings, I have read many things written on how the grieving families would like their children to be remembered. One of the things that came up time and time again was that we would become kinder people.

We often talk about the need for change in our schools, our towns, and our country. We talk about how much everyone needs Jesus. And that is so true. But is there any better way to point people to Jesus than by showing them kindness? And is there a better way to teach kindness than by showing kindness to others?

And so I ask you to join me in a year of living kindly.

Let that rude car in. Let someone go before you in the checkout line. Be patient with the mother dealing with two screaming toddlers. Be courteous to strangers and to your family alike. Slow down and be more aware.

And as a teacher this one is for me: be kind to children who are standing on your last nerve.

And so is this verse.

"She opens her mouth with wisdom. The teaching of kindness is on her tongue."
Proverbs 31:26 (NLV)
