Freedom for the Prisoners

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19

Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl was taken captive in June, 2009 in Afghanistan. It is thought that he continues to be held in Pakistan by the Taliban. It is hard to imagine what he has endured over these years and how desperately he must long to be free and to come home.

We are blessed with such great freedom in this country. Just think of the choices we make every day without any authority intervening.

But even greater is the spiritual freedom that is ours in Jesus. He liberated us from the captivity of oppression that can so easily beset us.

After all, that is why he came. To set us free. And through him we are free indeed.

(And please pray for Sgt. Bergdahl. He needs to come home. Now.)
