Crown Jewels
If you have turned your television (or maybe I should say "telly") on at all this week, you have probably seen stories about Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee honoring her years on the throne. It has been quite the celebration with fireworks, parties, and parades. But while the Queen has been decked out in any number of fancy hats, I have not seen her wearing her crown.
I suppose when you have been queen for 60 years, you don't have to feel the weight of the crown to know who you are. She would still be queen even in a baseball cap.
On the other hand, it's time to accept that I will never be queen of anything. Wanting to be a princess will not make it so. Honestly, there's not a lot of royalty coming out of Snyder, Texas these days. And though I do have a gardening hat, it is a far cry from a jewel encrusted crown.
But what I do have are sweet children who love God. And I have been honored to be able to share God's word with a lifetime's worth of 1st and 2nd graders.
That will do.
"For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy." 1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20
