The Keys

My car knows me. I can just touch the door handle, and it unlocks. I can push the start button on the dash, and it starts.

My back door knows me, too. I don't need a key to unlock it. I just put some numbers into the keypad, and it automatically opens.

But to be perfectly honest, my car doesn't know me. It knows its key. As long as the key is in the bottom of my purse or in my pocket, it opens or starts at a touch. But if I don't have the key on me, I might as well be a stranger. And if I don't have the code for my back door, it isn't opening for me either.

In John's amazing vision, Jesus states that he holds the keys of death and Hades. He opens doors that no one else can open. Death knows him, and its gates open at his touch.

I have no ability to unlock the hold of death. But I have Jesus. And he has the key.

"I am the Living One; I was dead and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades." Revelation 1:18
