Perseid

Early Sunday morning, I went out to see the Perseid meteor shower.  The sky was clear and beautiful.  In less than five minutes, I saw two shooting stars streak across the sky. It was magnificent.

But the beauty and vastness of the universe were trumped by a little mosquito.

A little mosquito that might or might not bite me.  A little mosquito that might or might not carry West Nile virus.

I heard no buzzing and felt no bites.  It was just a case of the "what-ifs" that sent me back inside.

And now it's Monday morning, and I really wish that I had chosen differently.

I wish I had chosen to not be afraid.

I wish I had chosen to see the glory.

Instead fear won. Again.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation--
whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life--
of whom shall I be afraid?"  Psalm 27:1-2

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand....

For I am the LORD, your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you,
Do not fear; I will help you."  Isaiah 41:10, 13
