The Covers
I used to be scrawny and little and cold all the time. Now that I've plumped up a bit and zoomed to the far side of middle-age, I am much more likely to be hot. I walk by the thermostat and give it a nudge down. Every ceiling fan in the house is on warp speed.
I'm just hot, and I definitely mean that in the sweaty way.
Come bedtime and I want the house to be even cooler. Since I can't sleep without covers, the temperature has to drop even more.
Think about how good it feels. A nice soft blanket pulled all the way up over your shoulders. The quilt your grandmother made. A down comforter. Those covers are security. They are cozy and comfy and an absolute necessity for rest. They feel like love.
Isn't that a picture of God? He spreads his love over us and tucks us safely in.
When you crawl into bed tonight, tired and worn out from the demands of the day, pull those soft covers up. Snuggle in and relax. Remember the God who loves you and who protects you. Sleep well.
"But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you."
Psalm 5:11
