Fixer Upper

I suspect that the worst freeway in the country must be I-35. It has been under construction for years and years. The traffic is awful. Eighteen-wheelers crowd the lanes.

But I-35 goes to Austin and the Hill Country, and if you live in Texas that is no small thing.

Along the way, the highway goes right through the heart of Waco and Baylor University. I know a lot of people for whom Baylor is the very reason for Waco's existence.

But not me.

For me the most important thing about Waco is that it's the home of Fixer Upper.

On the show, Chip and Joanna Gaines take disastrous houses and turn them into dream homes. There is no house too horrible to be fixed. No house that can't be saved. They see possibility in the most unlikely places.

Those houses sound like me.

I'm a bit of a fixer upper myself.

But when Jesus looks at me, he doesn't see the disrepair. He sees what is meant to be.

And I'll take that.
