The Painted House
The old farmhouse is getting new paint. She has been yellow (okay, harvest gold to be more precise) for the past 40 years. It seems that it is time for a change.
I'm in charge of finding the right paint color. Gray seems a good idea. And so, three gray paint samples go up, three gray paint samples are discarded. They are pretty colors. They just don't belong on the farmhouse.
She is a yellow house.
So I'm heading back to Sherwin Williams, this time to look for the perfect yellow paint.
But I've been reading about how easily you can go wrong choosing a yellow. Soft yellows turn neon. Or harvest gold. It makes me nervous to pick a color for an entire house. That's a lot of paint.
Paint chips can be so deceiving. Those little two-inch samples look much different when painted on in large swaths.
Isn't that so true in life? We see a tiny bit of a situation and are sure that we know everything. Someone says a few words, and we become judge and jury. We look at circumstance and assume we know the heart.
We forget that all we see is a paint chip.
"Be honest in your judgment and do not decide at a glance (superficially and by appearances); but judge fairly and righteously." John 7:24 (Amplified)
