Say What?
On Sunday morning in 2nd grade, we were playing Pictionary. The kids were to draw a Bible story for us to guess. Someone drew a cross, another child drew Mary and Joseph with baby Jesus. And then a little girl drew a quite elaborate picture. It was obviously a well with water in the bottom and a man in the water. She is an excellent little artist, but we just couldn't figure out what her story was. Finally, we gave up and asked her what she had drawn. Her answer? Jonah in the well.
I guess that's what happens when people with a Texas twang are teaching your Bible class.
Hasn't that happened to all of us, though? We are convinced that we heard something one way and we even argue with people who correct us. We sing songs with the wrong words, we misquote people, we repeat stories with facts that are just a little off.
Most of the time it doesn't matter. We all make mistakes. We laugh at each other and at ourselves.
But God? We don't have to speak clearly or coherently for him to understand us. Our thoughts can be jumbled and we can muddle through our prayers, but he knows exactly what we are trying to say.
Even through a Texas twang.
"I love the LORD because he hears and answers my prayers. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath!" Psalm 116:1,2
