I'm Ignoring You

It's not intentional.

It's just careless.

This little blog has sat on the shelf for months with no attention or care. Oh, I've thought of it and promised to tend to it. But I have let other things take precedence. I have told it to wait and I would get to it eventually. I even redesigned it without writing a thing on it.

And it has sat quietly without making a stir.

Until today.

Today it said, "That's enough. You need to slow down and breathe deeply."

You know, I actually don't believe it was the blog talking to me. I believe it was God.

For I have let other things take precedence. I have told him to wait and I would get to him eventually.

And he waited quietly without making a stir.

A few Sundays ago I taught the story of the Old Testament prophet Elijah who had done many amazing things for the LORD as he stood against the evil king and queen. But now here he was hiding in a cave feeling rather sorry for himself. After all he had done for the LORD, he felt he was all alone.

God came and spoke to him. "What are you doing here Elijah?"

God told him to go stand out on the mountain. There was a terrible storm, but God was not in the wind. There was an earthquake, but God was not in the earthquake. And then there was a fire, but God was not in the fire.

Finally there was the sound of a gentle whisper. And God asked, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

I had a great time with the children acting out the story (wind and fire and earthquakes make for a lot of fun) and talking about how God never left Elijah.

The story has rolled around in my head for the last couple of weeks. And finally I actually listened.

"What are you doing here, Raleen?"

"I'm working hard for you."

"What are you doing here, Raleen?"

Okay. I'm listening. It's time.

For me, it's time to take time. Time to rest in him and breathe in his Spirit. Breathe in his grace. Breathe in his love and tenderness. Simply sit and enjoy his presence.

And hear the gentle whisper.

"I hear this most gentle whisper from One I never guessed would speak to me."
Psalm 81:5 (The Message)
